Your recordings stay on your computer unless you share them

Last updated: October 23, 2026

LoopShot records a part of a web page, a whole tab or (if you choose) your whole screen as an animated GIF. It has no analytics and no tracking, it shows no ads, and it sells no data.

What it accesses

  • Your screen, only if you choose Whole screen: Chrome's own picker asks which screen, window or tab to share, and nothing is captured unless you pick one. Recording stops when you press Stop, use Chrome's "Stop sharing" bar or reach the time limit, and the GIF is made on your computer.
  • The tab you record: only when you click the LoopShot icon or press its shortcut on that tab. LoopShot captures the visible tab while you are recording and keeps only the area you selected. It stops when you press Stop, when the time limit is reached, or when you leave the page.
  • Your downloads: only to save a GIF, video or image when you click Download.
  • Images you choose to edit: when you right-click an image and choose Edit with LoopShot, LoopShot asks for access to that site once, then downloads just that image to open it in the editor.
  • Sharing (Pro, optional): only when you click Upload & get link on a recording, that one GIF is uploaded to LoopShot's GIF hosting and becomes viewable by anyone who has its link. You can delete the online copy at any time from the recording's page; the link then stops working.

What it stores, all in your browser

  • your most recent recordings (up to 12), so you can preview and download them again;
  • your settings;
  • your Pro license key, if you enter one.

Who it talks to

  • Nobody while you record. Recordings are captured, encoded and stored on your computer.
  • If you share a GIF, it is stored with Vercel (Vercel Blob) and served from this site. Uploads are labelled with a random tag derived from your license or from a random code LoopShot makes in your browser, not your name or email. Links shared without a license key are deleted automatically after 30 days at most. We remove GIFs that break the law or others' rights when they're reported to the contact address below.
  • If you choose to pay for Pro, payment happens on PayPal's page, under PayPal's privacy policy. LoopShot doesn't receive your payment details or your email. Earlier Pro buyers paid through Stripe (Stripe's privacy policy), and their license key contains their email address. This site keeps no database.
  • LoopShot checks license keys entirely offline.
